KARACHI: Pakistan has secured its first medal at the Commonwealth Games, with boxer Fatima Zahra guaranteed a place on the podium after a dominant quarter-final win.
Fatima Zahra advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 60kg boxing at the Commonwealth Games.
The quarter-finals saw Fatima defeat New Zealander Jordan Wilson to earn a unanimous 5-0 points victory at SEC Hall 5 in Glasgow.
The Pakistani boxer impressed during the three-round bout, earning the judges’ verdict by margins of 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.
With her place in the semi-finals confirmed, Fatima Zahra is now assured of at least a bronze medal, marking Pakistan’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games.
She will now look to continue her winning run and fight for a place in the final.
